Caldy's Chris Edwards stars in Lord’s Taverners Tri-series tournament.

England Learning Disability completed their first Lord’s Taverners Tri-series victory with a 71-run demolition of South Africa at Trinity Grammar School in Melbourne. Gavin Randall’s side bounced back from a 145-run defeat by Australia in the third edition of the competition.

Chris Edwards’ 53 underpinned England’s 174 for seven while James Dickens chipped in with 31. John Taylor and Lee Stenning then claimed two wickets apiece as South Africa were bowled out for just 103.

"After having a disaster at the MCG yesterday losing to Australia we came back strong today," said national disability manager Ian Martin. "The win is England's first in Tri-Series history and will be celebrated accordingly."

However Australia later continued their dominance of the learning disability game with an eight-wicket Duckworth/Lewis victory over England in a rain-shortened Lord’s Taverners Tri-series final at the Junction Oval in St Kilda.England made the final after the last round-robin match between the sides was abandoned due to an unsafe outfield. The abandonment at Geelong saw each side earn one point, taking England above South Africa.

Chasing 124 for victory, the hosts were in front of the Duckworth/Lewis rate at 79 for two when the heavens opened in Melbourne and brought a premature end to proceedings.

Australia, who have now won all three Tri-series - also involving South Africa, opted to bowl first and dismissed England well within the allotted 40 overs. Chris Edwards was the tourists’ mainstay with 60.
